Matthias is one of Europe's earliest MBI practitioners, with over 15 years of experience acquiring, building, and scaling owner-managed businesses across the DACH region and beyond. He completed two searches and two MBIs in Europe before co-founding Relay Investments Europe, and was the first European search fund investment made personally by Sandro and Martin, prior to the creation of Relay Investments. That relationship, built on a shared conviction that ETA could work in Europe long before it was fashionable, became the foundation on which Relay Investments Europe was later co-founded.
Earlier in his career, Matthias was part of the Solera Holdings team, supporting its $1B ADP carve-out and NYSE listing during nearly a decade in California.
Matthias lives in Zurich with his wife Annabelle, a published cookbook author, and their three children. When he isn't building companies or supporting entrepreneurs, he can be found on the ice hockey rink, hiking in the mountains, or out in the countryside of rural Styria. Family time is non-negotiable.
Matthias holds an MBA from IESE Business School and the Tuck School of Business, and an MSc from the London School of Economics.
